"When Daddy Gets Home" - A Poem for Father's Day
The inspiration for writing this simple little poem, written from a young child's point of view, came from my 6 year old middle child.
The other day, he informed me that his favorite time of the whole day is "When Daddy gets home."
This poem in honor of Father's Day is dedicated to my husband, Alan, who is such a wonderful daddy to our three children, and to all the dads out there who love their families well.

When Daddy gets home,
That’s the best time of day.
I know he’ll be tired from work,
But never too tired to play.
When Daddy gets home,
Even rainy days seem bright.
I run into his big, strong arms;
He always hugs me tight.
When Daddy gets home,
He tickles me with his whiskers.
And I love the smile on Mommy’s face,
Right after Daddy’s kissed her.
When Daddy gets home,
His silly games are the best.
And he’ll tell me a story or sing me a song
At night to help me rest.
When Daddy gets home,
And day is coming to an end,
I'm the happiest child you ever saw,
Because my daddy is my best friend.
